Rising Stars 4 July 2015
Wow! Another fantastic result from the swimmers of Harpurhey Swimming Club! I am proud to say that we have brought the shield back to Harpurhey after winning todays gala. The swimmers pulled off a brilliant performance with many taking home bronze, silver and gold medals. A vast majority of the swimmers finished their races with new PB's. Both the A and B Relay Teams finished 2nd in the Freestyle and Medley Relays. Due to the Australian Paralympic Team visiting the Uk and training at Manchester Aquatics the pool was set at 50m. Our swimmers are used to competing in 50 metre races but normally do 2 lengths of a 25m pool with a tumble turn. The change of the pool set up didn't faze our swimmers and they took the 50m pool in their stride. We only have two weeks of training left before we break for summer and I can not think of a better way to finish the season. The teams of Harpurhey swimmers have won the last 3 galas that we have entered in May, June and July and it is brilliant to finish on such a high. We hold our Annual Awards evening in March and I am certainly looking forward to 2016 where these swimmers will receive their much deserved recognition. Once more I have to say none of this would be possible without the help and dedication of the coaches and poolside helpers. Pulling together has produced a brilliant team and a club that strives to do its best at every opportunity. Next Saturday is our annual 'picnic in the park' where the club swimmers and coaches get a chance to let off some steam and socialise away from the pool. We have a few games of rounders, running relay races and even egg and spoon and sack races. We have our picnic together with lots of cold drinks, cakes and biscuits - yes even these budding athletes deserve the occasional sugary treat. Lets hope this weather lasts so we can make it a fun filled day for our swimmers to remember :-) I hope they all have a brilliant summer break as they have worked so hard this year and truly deserve it. We will return in September and hopefully build on the past months success. Saturday 20 June 2015...............in a word 'Amazing'. 20 of Harpurhey Swimmers took part in this newly organised gala at Manchester Aquatics. Everyone turned up on time, fully kitted out and ready to go. We were unsure what to expect as this was a new gala arranged by Diane Hennessy - Sports Development Officer for Manchester City Council. A big thank you to Diane for this, everything ran like clockwork even to finishing the whole event with 1 minute to spare!
Our swimmers were focused and prepared to swim whatever race the Head Coach and Squad Coach had chosen for them. There were alternative races thrown in the mix but nothing fazed our club swimmers. We finished the gala on a high being the overall winners. Although this was mainly due to the young swimmers efforts a big thank you has to go to the 9 brave parents who volunteered to take part in the Parents Race scoring vital points for the club. Can I also add that these parents behaviours - just like their children's was exceptional on poolside :-) this makes for an easier life for the Team Managers. Four of our coaches also took part in the gala entering themselves into the Coaches Race and I am proud to say they lead by example by coming in at 1st, 2nd and 3rd place. Events like today would not be possible without the help of poolside staff so I would like to express my thanks to the newly trained Time Keepers from our club that gave up their time to help out. Harpurhey Swimming club is clearly going from strength to strength. The swimmers never cease to amaze me and the dedication of our coaches is unique. You all make it a club to be proud of. I can't wait for the next one..... Harpurhey Swimming Club did it again! Well done to all the swimmer that took part in the Rising Stars Gala on 16 May 2015 at Manchester Aquatics. The swimmers worked hard over the whole event winning the shield by 185 clear point. They also came in top in the Relay Race bringing home the shield for first place.
It just goes to show how far these swimmers have come. Their dedication and training is starting to pay off but more importantly you can see the real team bond. All the effort put in by everyone including the coaches and poolside helpers have made this achievement possible and each and everyone of them are proud to say 'we belong to Harpurhey Swimming Club'. We will continue to train hard and reach our goals. Everyone club member really does know the meaning of our motto 'Pull Together'. These swimmers have made Harpurhey Swimming Club what it is today and inspire the younger swimmers of what they want to do in the future. Well done team and Good Luck for future events! Greater Manchester Police Championships took place at Manchester Aquatics Centre on Sunday 12 April 2015.
We were invited to join them with relay teams of girls and boys aged 8 to 10 year old. All swimmers who took park gave a really good race and the support our swimmers received from the officers was great. They were a really friendly bunch. We were only there for a short time but appreciated the opportunity it gave ours swimmers. Maybe next time we could give the officers a run for their money and do 50m races! Well done swimmers, you did us proud! Last night produced another fantastic team effort from the swimmers of Harpurhey Swimming club.
The 8 - 12 year olds that entered the Rising Stars Gala used every bit of their ability, stamina and training techniques throughout the event. It was a fast paced event with the swimmers barely being able to draw breath before going back to the marshalling area to prepare for their next race. However, this is did not deter any of our swimming and we closed the gala coming in a very close 2nd to the winning team. There was only approximately 30 point dividing us! Both relay teams did an outstanding job finishing 2nd. The relay races, I would say are, without doubt the highlight of the evening. The roof almost comes off the centre with the cheers and shouts from poolside and the spectators gallery as each club gets behind their team and encourages them to the finish. Obviously none of this would be possible without the volunteers on poolside such as the Timekeeper, Marshals, Referees, Starter Master, the backroom staff and of course The Master of Ceremony who makes all the announcements throughout the evening. The rising Stars is a well organised event, so a big thank you for making the galas run so smoothly. Last but by all means not least I must give credit to the coaches. Without their dedication none of this would be possible. You give up your time freely (and on occasion your social life too) to come along to every training session to coach and inspire these young athletes. I am sure you will agree, performances and results like last nights make it all worth while. Well done everyone and good luck to you all in the May Rising Stars! Rising Stars 28 March 2015 - We have a team of 24 swimmers taking part in Saturdays gala. These are our 9 - 12 year old swimmers. The will be taking part in 50m races for Backstroke, Freestyle, Breaststroke, Fly and an IM.
On the night some of the swimmers will be selected to take part in the Team's A & B Relay. I know that each swimmer will do their best and work together as a team. I would like to wish every swimmer good luck and thank the coaches and poolside helpers for giving up their Saturday evening in support of the club. May the best team win! Harpurhey Swimming Club offers expert swimming coaching to the children of the local and surrounding areas.
It is run by hard working volunteers who dedicate their free time for the benefit of these young swimmers. They are hard working and 100% dedicated to making swimming an achievable goal and interesting sport for their members. Well done Harpurhey Swimming Club! |
